It was January 29, 2003 about 10 a.m in the morning.
John, age 18, borrowed his older sister's car that
fateful day. He was just going to drive around town
looking for an extra job. He was with one of his best
friends, Timmy. He wasn't 6 miles from his house when
the car hydroplaned on the asphalt and gravel country road.
John's car hit a culvert and rolled....and rolled. We had
hoped he was killed instantly.but his friend, age 18,
attempted to do CPR after pulling the car off John. Timmy
survived with scratches and a broken nose. The Paramedics
arrived and they said that John had passed away.

Then there was the long wait for the JP to come and pronounce
him deceased. His brother, Ronnie, age 22, had arrived on the
scene by that time.He had to watch. The sheriff department said
the wreck couldn't have been avoided The pavement was slick.
There was a slight mist of rain in the air just enough to cause
a car to slide.

It was his brother who had to come back to his mom's house and give
her the news. I looked out and said to John's sister "something's
wrong with Ronnie...his legs..he couldn't walk..then he told us. I
couldn't believe it He had just been here. Our John, little John John,
so young so full of life. .It was just that quick. It just happened.
He had got up early that morning, taken a shower in hopes of landing a
job...it was not to be. It was his last drive. He wasn't drinking,
he wasn't speeding. He was doing the right thing. He was just going to
place a few applications in at different places. One moment here, the
next moment eternity. We miss him so. This was his graduation year.He
would have walked with the class of 2003 in May in a few months. Never
failed to smile and say "I love you Mom." as he walked out the door.
These last words I will always treasure in my heart till John and I meet
again.
